Scott Metals pioneered the 24 hour turnaround time on fabricated Steel House Columns and innovatively led the way by being the first fabricator to introduce Pre-Galvanised Steel sections in the manufacture of House Columns. At Scott Metals' Brisbane based factory, there are five full time welders dedicated to producing Steel House Posts, Shade Sail Posts, Security Protection Bollards and Fence Posts to our clients specifications, on time every time, using only the finest grade and quality Australian Made SHS, RHS & CHS.

The most commonly used sizes of SHS for domestic Steel House Columns are 75x75x4 and 100x100x4. See the Pricing Table below. At Scott Metals we use Australian Made Supagal SHS in the manufacture of our columns. This product is a pre-galvanised, inside and out, grade AS1163 - 450PLUS material. The total coating thickness of Supagal pre-galvanised sections is twice that of any other product currently available. The majority of Supagal finished columns are fabricated to order within 24 hours.

Generally these Steel House Support Posts consist of a welded base plate, for holding into a concrete footing, and a top plate in one of the configurations shown below. After fabrication the Top Plate, Base Plate and welds of Steel Supagal House Posts are painted with a Zinc Rich Cold Galvanised Primer to assist with corrosion prevention.

Should you require extra protection from the elements, then we recommend using Hot Dip Galvanised Columns. Hot Dip Galvanising is a process where the column, after manufacture, is completely immersed in molten zinc. This thick metallic zinc coating, that completely covers the interior and exterior column surfaces, provides a superior corrosion resistant finish.

Top Plate Sizes for 75 x 75 Columns: Our Standard top plate is 200mm long with 2 @ 14mm holes set centrally 25mm in from each end. The Half top plate (also used in Corner configuration) is 150mm long with 1 @ 14mm hole centrally punched 25mm in from the end. The Tag plate used for TEE, CNR and 4 Way set up is 75mm square with 1 @ 14mm hole centrally punched 25mm in from the end. The Vertical top has a height of 125mm and has 2 @ 14mm holes set centrally 25mm and 85mm down from the top edge. Top Plates are sold separately for those wanting to fabricate their own Columns: STD - $5.50ea, HALF - $4.50ea, VERT - $7.50ea & TAG - $3.50ea, prices include GST.

Top Plate Sizes for 100 x 100 Columns: Our Standard top plate is 225mm long with 2 @ 14mm holes, offset to suit a 75mm bearer, 25mm in from each end. The Half top plate (also used in Corner configuration) is 175mm long with 1 @ 14 x 28mm slotted hole centrally punched 25mm in from the end. The Tag plate used for TEE, CNR and 4 Way set up is 75mm square with 1 @ 14mm hole centrally punched 25mm in from the end. The Vertical top specifications for 100 x 100 columns are generally stipulated by the customer. Top Plates are also sold separately for those wanting to manufacture their own Columns: STD - $8.50ea, HALF - $6.50ea and TAG - $3.50ea, prices include GST.

Base Plate Sizes: The inground base plate size typically used for 75 x 75 columns is 130mm square and for 100 x 100 columns it is 150mm square. The column is fully welded centrally onto the base plate. Base Plates are also sold separately ($3.50 Inc GST) for those wanting to fabricate their own Steel House Posts.

Welding: All Top and Base Plates are Fully Welded with a minimum 6mm continuous fillet weld, ensuring strength and structural integrity.

Alternative Designs: Square, Rectangular and Round steel sections in various sizes, thickness and finishes and different top or base plate configurations may be requested as well as side cleats, drilling, bracing tags or any other special needs.
